A few days

Patrick Martin

Birthday

Smile I’m older be happy

It’s ok that your gifts are crappy.

Mom made my favorite dish

The cake says I’ll get my wish.

Smile I’m older be glad

It’s was quite a year I had

They all say that I will go far

They’re right, lend me the car.

Smile I’m older be still

They say that I’m over the hill

I swung and broke the piñata

It was hard in a miata.

Smile I’m older be nice

Say things slowly and twice

Have fun enjoy the beers

Drink to me last more years

Weekday

Slaving away from nine to five

Stop to make sure I’m alive

Paper jammed the machine

Give up and get some caffeine

Snow day

Check the TV and hope that they say

“Arlington county has a snow day”

Waiting, and praying to see

If they will let me be free

For Fairfax the announcer has said

It’s ok, give up, go back to bed

Then Culpepper, Herndon and P.G.

They’re all closed even DC.

I watch and wonder through the whole show

Every one is off but Arlington must go.

Sunday

Doughnuts, comics and a coke

Redskins, beer nuts, dirty joke.

Kicked back in a lazy boy

The remote is no toy.

Get pointed at the TV wall

We’re ready for some football

Holiday

Dad hates aunt Sally

Mom hates uncle Steve

My sis wants to dally

And I want leave

Grandma thinks she is wise

Grandpa knows she is not

I say she lies

Oh perish the thought

I can’t control my rage

I’ve become unstable

It happens at this age

At the kids table

We must get out

We must before we crack

Before we shout

“We’re not coming back!”
